Z2 Selfie Light

The Z2 is a clip-on selfie light for phones, laptops, monitors, computers, desks, cameras and action cameras. It is described here at application level, because the manufacturer's page gives its feature set and some figures but not a full specification sheet. The figures that are published are given below; the figures that are not published are named as missing rather than filled in.

The published figures are straightforward. The Z2 carries 78 LEDs, adjusts colour temperature from 2600K to 6000K, and gives colour rendering of CRI90 and above. It is USB powered and rechargeable, offers ten brightness steps, and covers warm white, natural white, daylight and cool white tones. It comes with three kinds of mount, which is what lets one light fit a phone, a monitor, a laptop, a desk, a camera, or an action camera.

The missing figures matter too. Power, luminous flux, battery capacity and run time are not published for the Z2, and none of those numbers appears on this site. A buyer who needs them should ask through the inquiry form. That restraint is especially important for a small light, where a buyer might otherwise assume a run time or brightness from a larger lamp in the same range.

The uses the maker lists for the Z2 are video conferences, remote work, video calls, personal broadcasting, live streaming, and video for online platforms. Those uses share one requirement: a face that must look clear on a screen, without a studio setup. The Z2 suits that requirement because it travels with the device it lights for, and it needs no stand or rig.

Mounting is the practical detail that decides whether a clip-on light gets used. A light that clips firmly to a monitor and stays put will be used every call. A light that slips, or that blocks the camera, will be left in a drawer. The three mounts supplied with the Z2 are meant to cover the common cases, and a buyer equipping a team should check the mount against the monitors and laptops actually in use.

For a buyer comparing selfie lights, the honest comparison is on the published figures: LED count, colour temperature range, colour rendering, brightness steps, power source, and mounts. On those figures the Z2 is a capable small light for calls and short recordings. On brightness at distance and on run time, no claim is made here, because no figure has been published to support one.
